Lawrence General praised in 2022 Joint Commission survey

April 11, 2023

A team of six surveyors from The Joint Commission (TJC) spent four days in December 2022 inspecting Lawrence General Hospital and appraising our place among other hospitals in the country. Their verdict? “You have a wonderful organization,” said one surveyor. Added another physician surveyor: “You’ve got the right people doing the right things for the right reasons.”

And while those surveyors and others scored the hospital according to various metrics and measures developed as part of the triennial Joint Commission Survey, it was the hospital’s heart, hospitality and community pride that shone through during their mid-December stop.

The surveyors visited numerous Lawrence General departments and off-site locations to evaluate the environment of care and patient care processes, policies, and practices. They also identified and documented areas of opportunity based upon Joint Commission standards and CMS Conditions of Participation.

This year’s survey was much more detail-oriented than our previous surveys. The TJC surveyors dug deeper, asked more questions, and conducted numerous white glove tests from top to bottom across all locations. Given the intense survey process, President and CEO Deborah J. Wilson and SVP, Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing and Quality Officer Anthony Alley reported that TJC findings were quite encouraging and reflective of the preparations made by staff to demonstrate the outstanding care we provide.

“The TJC survey team confirmed what we know to be very true: We have a passionate, talented and dedicated Lawrence General team with the commitment and expertise required of an outstanding organization now and in the future.” Wilson said.
