Dr. Maurice Cohen Named Medical Director of Gastroenterology

Lawrence General Hospital welcomes Maurice B. Cohen, MD, as medical director of the Gastroenterology Department. In 2001, Dr. Cohen founded Northeast Gastroenterology PC in Salem, NH and has practiced in the Merrimack Valley Region for nearly 30 years. He is a resident of Andover, MA and specializes in gastroenterology and internal medicine.

“Dr. Cohen’s experience is going to be very valuable as we continue to expand our patient reach throughout the Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire,” says Kathy Caredeo, RN, director of Cardiovascular Services and Ambulatory Procedures.

Dr. Cohen has been on Lawrence General’s medical staff since 1992. He earned his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1992. He graduated from medical school at Tufts University of Medicine in 1987 and completed his residency at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in 1990.

“I look forward to working with Lawrence General’s administration and my gastrointestinal colleagues as we develop an accessible and comprehensive service for the Merrimack Valley,” says Dr. Cohen.

Dr. Cohen’s private practice, Northeast Gastroenterology PC, performs colonoscopies, upper gastrointestinal endoscopies, and flexible sigmoidoscopies. The practice provides full evaluation for individuals with gastrointestinal problems including gastroesophageal reflux disease, swallowing disorders, abdominal pain, liver and pancreatic disorders, and altered bowel habits.

  • Colonoscopy (colon area)
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas)
  • Endoscopic ultrasound (digestive and lung areas)
  • Gastroscopy (stomach area)
