Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

In September of 2010, Lawrence General Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Boston formalized a clinical affiliation that had begun in 2009 as a successful partnership in cardiovascular services only. The affiliation enables Lawrence General to enhance clinical programs in the greater Merrimack Valley, offering patients an expanded roster of specialty services and clinics locally and greatly decreasing the need to travel to Boston for high quality care. With the affiliation, patients have increased local access to all specialties of a Harvard-affiliated teaching hospital and improved coordination of care through an integrated electronic medical record system.

Greater Lawrence Family Medicine Residency Program & Health Center

Lawrence General is proud to partner with the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, and support this well-recognized Residency Program, which draws many of the top medical students to the Merrimack Valley each year. Developed in 1994 as the nation’s first accredited community health center-sponsored family medicine residency program, this model program has received national recognition for providing not only superior academic training, but also for the unique cultural experiences the residents gain. Lawrence General Hospital serves as the primary in-patient and emergency care provider for the local community as well as the only area teaching hospital proudly hosting residents of the program during their clinical rotations. As a result of our teaching partnership through the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency, the number of primary care physicians in urban Lawrence has increased from only three in 1994 to more than 75 today. Lawrence General provides financial support to the Health Center and the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency program, and more than 200 of the Hospital’s medical staff members teach residents in their offices, in lectures and on rounds.  In 2011, the residency program graduated the 16th class and welcomed its 19th class of new residents – the class of 2014. This raised the total number of participants over the life of the program to over 125.

The Merrimack Valley YMCA

While Lawrence General Hospital and The Merrimack Valley YMCA have been working together for decades, in 2010 the two organizations formed a more formal partnership to better serve the health and wellness needs of the region. The YMCA produces approximately $3,000,000 in health benefits to the region annually, and LGH is proud to partner with them in expanding these pursuits and benefits, as the Hospital provides over $3,200,000 in community benefits annually. We are indeed "Partners for a Healthier Merrimack Valley", and together we co-sponsor wellness events and programs such as the popular Youth Basketball and Itty Bitty Baseball Leagues and the Brickman Triathlon. Lawrence General also lends its expertise to the YMCA staff and offers educational seminars to the general public at YMCA locations on topics such as Nutrition and Diabetes Awareness. Lawrence General has begun working with the YMCA to possibly become the primary health and wellness provider within the new facility expansion slated for their Andover branch expansion project.
