Short Stay
Located on the first floor of the Hospital, the Short Stay Unit is an outpatient department that provides a variety of clinical services to patients on a short-term basis. Among the conditions the Unit commonly treats are multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, Chron's disease, dehydration and anemia. The goals of the treatments vary based on the specific disease and are often prophylactic in nature. For example, patients with rheumatoid arthritis receive infusions on a regularly scheduled basis. Altogether, the Unit serves more than 6,000 patients annually.
The Short Stay Unit serves an admit-and-recover function for all outpatient Cardiac Catheter Services. Patients are prepped for their procedure on the Short Stay Unit and, following it, they return to the Unit to recover. Likewise, outpatient Interventional Radiology patients and Radiology-guided biopsy patients are prepped and recovered on the Short Stay Unit. The Unit is also home to the Hospital's Ambulatory Medicine Program.
The Short Stay Unit has a recently upgraded infusion suite with recliner chairs, tastefully decorated furniture and a flat screen television for patient comfort. Appointments can often be made and confirmed with short wait times. Flexible patient appointment times are available Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. to as late as 9:00 p.m. for patients who want to come in after work.
