Pediatric Care

The Pediatric Center

Nothing is more disturbing to parents than having a sick child. Generally, it's nothing serious – an upset stomach, a fever, a simple infection. But what if your child is suffering from something worse? That's when you'll appreciate the level and quality of family-centered care available to your child and you at the most comprehensive inpatient pediatric unit in the Merrimack Valley.

The Pediatric Center at Lawrence General Hospital, fully renovated in 2012, treats children ranging in age from newborns and toddlers to teenagers and young adults. Common reasons for admission include pneumonia, asthma, gastrointestinal problems, sickle cell anemia, broken bones, infectious diseases and surgeries like tonsillectomies and appendectomies.  The Pediatric Center is also home to "Paws the LGH Bear" and other toys and games, free to all our visitors!  Please see the sheet below for a listing of all the specialties, clinics and services available locally.

Why go to Boston when the top physicians and nurses, and most pediatric specialties, are now offered right here at Lawrence General, and in a brand new, family-friendly Pediatric Center?:

  • Pediatricians from Floating Hospital for Children at Lawrence General 24/7, 365 days per year
  • New, family-friendly Pediatric Center, featuring 5 private rooms and 14 total beds
  • Pediatric Cardiologists on staff
  • Pediatric GI (Gastrointestinal) Specialist from Tufts Medical Center

The Pediatric Center is staffed by a group of more than 20 experienced, compassionate pediatric RNs, all of whom are PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified. The PALS program was created as a joint effort between the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to assist healthcare professionals in assessing and treating pediatric patients who require critical care.

What's more, through an expansion of our affiliation with the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, a team of skilled pediatricians from Floating Hospital are at The Pediatric Center 24x7, providing expert treatment for whatever ails your child.

The principal pediatric teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine, Floating Hospital for Children is nationally recognized for the quality of its clinical programs and services and its groundbreaking pediatric research. Having Floating Hospital pediatricians on site to coordinate hospital care with your own pediatrician means there's no longer a reason for you to take your child into Boston for superb pediatric care.

On the other hand, if your child's medical condition gets to a stage that does require the resources and expertise of doctors at Floating Hospital, our affiliation ensures that a bed for your child is immediately available at that facility.

At Lawrence General, we like to say that we treat kids with kid gloves. Don't you feel better already?
