Palliative Care - FAQ's

What is Palliative Care?
Palliative Care offers specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses, and is provided by a team of doctors, nurses, and other specialists who work together with patients and their families for an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment.

Who can request a Palliative Care consultation?
The patient, a family member, caregiver, or healthcare professional can request a palliative care evaluation at any time by calling 978-722-1886.

What are the objectives of Palliative Care consultation?
Once a consultation is requested, the physician/primary care doctor collaborate with the patient, their family and the patient’s healthcare team to discuss the following items to determine what best meets the patient’s needs:
• Symptom Assessment
• Psychosocial Assessment
• Physical Examination
• Prognosis
• Goal Setting
• Disposition Planning
