MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
MRI services at Lawrence General are provided in collaboration with Merrimack Valley Health Services, Inc (MVHS).
MRI is a non-invasive, non-radiating diagnostic exam. Most exams are completed within 45 minutes. Lawrence General has the only high-field, open-bore, "Ambient Experience" MRI in Massachusetts. The Philips Ambient Experience utilizes a state-of-the art projector system transforming the room into a virtual theatre. Patients choose music, soft lighting and images to be projected on a specially designed wall to create a calming landscape such as a beach or display colorful graphics.
You will be pre-screened prior to your exam to ensure the most beneficial and timely MRI study. These questions you will be asked are necessary to determine your MRI compatibility and clinical needs.
MRI exams include:
- Brain
- Spine
- Chest
- Extremities/Joints
- Abdomen/Pelvis
- Breast/Breast Biopsy
- Prostate
- MR Angiography

In addition to the unit located in the Hospital, a second MRI unit in our Outpatient Center in North Andover provides magnet strength of 3 Tesla. This advanced technology, along with the openness of a 70cm bore and a weight limit of 550 lbs., delivers high-resolution images with exceptional anatomical detail.
